Chiropractic Services & Techniques

Oncology Chiropractic Care

Oncology Chiropractic Care, for those living with cancer, addresses symptoms in joints and muscles caused or intensified by surgery, chemotherapy or radiation therapy. A chiropractor provides noninvasive supportive care options that increase mobility, flexibility, strength and function, reducing stress and leading to improvement in overall well-being.

Pregnancy Chiropractic Care

Pregnancy Chiropractic Care’s role in prenatal care is to establish pelvic balance and alignment, helping to reduce the mother/baby discomfort and allowing the baby to be in the best position for delivery.

Pediatric & Adolescent Chiropractic

Pediatric and Adolescent Chiropractic addresses birth trauma, growth adaptations, and the tumbles of childhood that may cause decreased mobility of the spine. With the release of the joints, a child can heal and find true health or maintain their natural state of health.

Geriatric Chiropractic

Geriatric Chiropractic care is very important for an aging or elderly adult due to the changes that occur over time in the spine.  It will improve mobility and flexibility, balance and posture, remove stress from the nervous system, and help manage or eliminate acute or chronic pain.

Spinal Adjustment

Spinal adjustment is a procedure in which a chiropractor uses their hands or adjusting instruments to provide controlled sudden force to the joints of the spine to correct misalignment and restore physical function, also known as spinal manipulation or adjustment.

Extremity Adjustment

Extremity adjustment deals with numerous joints in the body including head, face/jaw, shoulder, arm, elbow, wrist, hand/fingers, hip, leg, knee, ankle, and foot/toes. Problems in the extremities may lead to chronic spinal issues. The adjustment helps restore normal motion to joints that have become locked-up or injured.

Advanced Proficiency Rated Activator Method

Activator Method is a diagnostic and treatment system that uses a small, hand-held device. The Activator Adjusting Instrument delivers a gentle impulse force to the spine, with the goal of restoring motion to the targeted spinal vertebra or joint.

Thompson Technique

Thompson Technique utilizes a segmental drop table to enhance and assist the motion force used in the area to be adjusted. The spinal segment is moved in the direction that will improve the motion of the segment with the one above and below.

Diversified Technique

Diversified Technique is characterized by a high-velocity, low-amplitude hands-on thrusts.  The objective is to restore proper movement and alignment of spine, helping to reduce joint dysfunction.

Gonstead Technique

Gonstead Technique is characterized by its specific hands-on adjusting of only the offending segments of the spine and extremities. The neck is adjusted with a specific maneuver while the patient is seated.

Flexion Distraction Technique

Flexion distraction technique involves the use of a specialized table that flexes and stretches the spine in a rhythmic motion, allowing the chiropractor to increase range of motion with a low-force manipulation.  This technique is especially helpful in treating mild to moderate disc conditions.

Therapies

Heat & Cold Therapy

Heat and cold therapy utilizes the application of hot or cold packs for 10-15 minute periods.  Cold slows blood flow to reduce pain and swelling of an acute or chronic injury, while heat relaxes muscles and joints, and is generally used for chronic situations.

Electrical Muscle Stimulation

Electrical muscle stimulation is used to relax muscle spasms, reduce inflammation, and provide pain relief. Electrodes are placed on the skin that send electrical pulses to the affected area.

Ultrasound Therapy

Ultrasound therapy applies sound waves to joints and soft tissue to increase blood flow to the affected area and accelerate healing. It is also used to reduce pain, stiffness and muscle spasms.

Instrument-Assisted Adhesion & Scar Tissue Removal

Instrument-assisted adhesion and scar tissue removal provides soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to effectively detect and treat scar tissue and restrictions that affect normal function.

Supportive Care

Oncology Chiropractic Care

Oncology Chiropractic Care, for those living with cancer, addresses symptoms in joints and muscles caused or intensified by surgery, chemotherapy or radiation therapy. A chiropractor provides noninvasive supportive care options that increase mobility, flexibility, strength and function, reducing stress and leading to improvement in overall well-being.

Oncology Massage Therapy

Oncology Massage Therapy is the modification of massage techniques in order to safely work with the effects of cancer and cancer treatment, and includes people in active treatment, those in recovery or survivorship, as well as those nearing the end-of-life.

Complete Decongestive Therapy For Lymphedema

Complete Decongestive Therapy for Lymphedema is a four-step lymphedema treatment program that includes skin and nail care instructions, manual lymph drainage (MLD) to stimulate lymph flow, compression bandaging, and exercise followed by self-care training.

Exercise & Rehabilitation

Therapeutic Exercise

Therapeutic exercise programs are specifically designed for the individual needs of the patient and can involve endurance, resistance and flexibility training with modifications, adjustments, and additional exercises as determined by periodic evaluations.

Balance & Core Stabilization

Balance and Core Stabilization consists of exercises to train the core muscles in the pelvis, lower back, hips and abdomen to work in harmony. Without strong core muscles, one can be more likely to suffer from chronic back pain, experience a loss of balance and fall, or be more prone to injury.

Range-of-Motion & Stretching Techniques

Poor range-of-motion in your hips and legs can lead to many health issues including lower back problems, and hip or knee pain. Increasing range-of-motion and flexibility are an important part of an injury prevention or rehabilitation program.  Flexibility exercises are gentle, and can include stretching movements to increase the length of muscles, while increasing range-of-motion and improving your posture.

Sports & Rehab Taping

Sports and Rehab Taping methods can be preventative or rehabilitative. When appropriately applied over muscles, taping can reduce pain and inflammation, improve circulation, relax and support muscles, provide structural support to joints, provide support to an injury site, and improve the body’s natural healing process.

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractors focus on the musculoskeletal and nervous systems (muscles, bones, nerves, and joints). Doctors of chiropractic use the same time-honored methods of consultation, case history, physical examination, laboratory analysis and x-ray examination as any other doctor. The evaluation and focus on the spine’s structure and function is what sets chiropractors apart from other healthcare professionals.

Accidents, falls, stress and repetitive motions can cause muscles to tense up and joints to become less mobile. This in turn can irritate surrounding nerves causing symptoms such as pain, numbness, and tingling sensations to name a few.

Chiropractors work to restore proper joint motion, thus reducing muscle tension/spasms and irritation to the surrounding nerves.

Chiropractic Facts

Doctors of Chiropractic receive extensive, demanding professional education on par with medical doctors (MDs) and osteopaths (DOs).

To receive the doctor of chiropractic degree, candidates must complete extensive undergraduate prerequisites and four years of graduate-level instruction and internship at an accredited chiropractic institution. Comprehensive knowledge of all systems of the body and diagnostic procedures enable the DC to thoroughly evaluate a patient, address disorders relating to the spine and determine the need for referral to another health care provider.

Doctors of Chiropractic are primary health care providers.

According to the Center for Studies in Health Policy, “The DC can provide all three levels of primary care interventions and therefore is a primary care provider, as are MDs and DOs. The doctor of chiropractic is a gatekeeper to the health care system and an independent practitioner who provides primary care services. The DC’s office is a direct access portal of entry to the full scope of service.”

Chiropractic is recognized by governmental health care programs.

Chiropractic is included in Medicare, Medicaid, Federal Employees Health Care Benefits Programs, Federal Workers’ Compensation and all state workers’ compensation programs. Chiropractic students are qualified to receive federal student loan assistance and DCs are authorized to be commissioned as health care officers in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Doctors of chiropractic provide effective, low-cost health care for a wide range of conditions.

Studies conducted according to the highest scientific standards and published by organizations not affiliated in any way with chiropractic institutions or associations continue to show the clinical appropriateness and effectiveness of chiropractic care. One of the most recent, funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health, stated emphatically that:

“On the evidence, particularly the most scientifically valid clinical studies, spinal manipulation applied by chiropractors is shown to be more effective than alternative treatments for low back pain…There would be highly significant cost savings if more management of low back pain was transferred from physician to chiropractors.”

Did you know?

Chiropractic is the largest, most regulated, and best recognized of the complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) professions.

It is the third largest doctoral-level health care profession after medicine and dentistry.
(Meeker, Haldeman; 2002; Annals of Internal Medicine)

Doctors of Chiropractic provide care in hospitals and other multidisciplinary health care facilities. A few notable examples of chiropractic integration into today’s health care system include the chiropractic department at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., and the care provided to veterans, active-duty military personnel, and Medicare patients.

    • Chiropractic was founded in 1895
    • There are approximately 85,000 chiropractors around the world. Approximately 65,000 practice in the United States.
    • Health insurance coverage is provided in policies of most major health plans, workers compensation plans, and auto insurance policies.
    • Doctors of chiropractic have been known to provide exceptional treatment for many spinal related conditions. Some of these conditions include neck pain, back pain, and headaches to name a few. Many doctors of chiropractic have taken additional training and have become certified in the treatment of sports injuries, as well as the care of auto injuries, and extremities (shoulders, hips, knees, etc.)
    • The main philosophy of chiropractic is to utilize a treatment method that seeks to help the patient restore normal physiological function. This, in turn, helps the patient improve his or her health and decrease or eliminate symptoms. Also, advice can be given regarding proper nutrition and exercise as it relates to the total picture of one’s health.
    • Over the last 100 years, chiropractic has enjoyed increasingly higher acceptance by the public. This has occurred because of a number of reasons. There have been more and more research studies that have proven that chiropractic is the most helpful and cost-effective treatment for a variety of conditions. And, more importantly, patients have seen for themselves that chiropractic, in many cases, simply helps for many conditions. Many patients like the fact that they have an alternative to the use of drugs and surgery.
